Do What The 99% Won’t

Want to achieve unbelievable success in your life?

The recipe for success is quite simple: do what 99% of your competition is unwilling to do.

Honestly, it’s that simple. But it’s not easy, which is why 99% of your competition won’t do ‘it’—whatever ‘it’ may be.

This week we released our interview with Asher Black. It’s a fantastic conversation and well worth a listen. 

But, in case you haven’t had a chance to listen, here’s a little background on Asher. This guy is 21 years old, has been a licensed real estate agent for about two years, and is on track to sell about 500 units this year alone.

Read that again: a 21-year-old real estate agent selling 500 units in one year

Numbers like that are virtually unheard of in real estate. The average agent sells about 12 homes a year. For most agents, 20 homes is a great year. So, 500 units in a year is an unbelievable feat. And, understandably, Asher is a rising star within the industry. 

While there’s much to be said (and much that is said in the podcast interview) about Asher’s current success and future ambitions, there is one thing he shared that I suspect is paramount to his success and sets him apart from 99% of all other real estate agents. It’s this: Asher makes around 2,000 cold calls per week. For reference, a 40-hour work week is 2,400 minutes. I’ll leave the math to you, but no matter how you run the numbers, that’s an unbelievable amount of time on the phone. Moreover, when cold calling gets stale, he goes from literal door-to-door looking for leads.

That—2,000 cold calls a week—my friends is what we call hustle. At 2,000 calls a week, Asher will reach out to over 100,000 people in a year. This is an example of taking massive action of the variety we relentlessly encourage here at Abundant Journey. 

Asher’s story also illustrates that massive action is not always glamorous. In fact, it’s often quite the opposite. To make 100,000+ calls and ‘only’ sell 500 units means he constantly has to face rejection and that most of the leads he’s chasing are duds. But, at the same time, he’s selling 40x the number of homes the average real estate agent sells every year. 

In other words, Asher is doing what 99% of his competition won’t do, and his results prove their loss is his gain. 

What’s Your Massive Action?

Now, consider your own journey. 

What massive action can you take that 99% of those around you refuse to do? Your massive action doesn’t have to be novel, costly, or complex. Like Asher, your massive action could be as simple as making cold calls, but dialing 10x more potential leads than anyone else in your industry. 

The possibilities for what you could do are endless, and the course of action you take depends greatly on your end goals. In general, though, I like Asher’s approach of turning sales into a simple numbers game. A percentage (no matter how minuscule) of his calls will convert into sales. More reach equates to more sales. 

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, but you do need to identify an opportunity to do what nobody else is doing in order to enjoy the success that everybody else dreams of achieving.
